Task Lighting — Lighting designed to meet the visual needs at a specific location

Total Building Commissioning — The National Conference on Building Commissioning has established an official definition of 'Total Building Commissioning' as follows: "Systematic process of assuring by verification and documentation, from the design stage to a minimum of one year after construction, that all facility systems perform interactively in accordance with the design documentation and intent, and in accordance with the owner’s operational needs, including preparation of operation personnel".

USGBC — United States Green Building Council

Value-Engineering - The application of recognized techniques used to provide the necessary function at the lowest overall cost.

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) — enable standard electric motors to change their speed depending upon the pressure or flow rate requirement (in contrast to regular motors that only run at a single speed such as 1800 RPM), and are becoming popular in many applications because of control advantages and purported energy savings.

Veiling Reflection — A loss of contrast (and therefore visibility) caused by the reflectance characteristics of a task and its background being similar at certain combinations of viewing angle and the angle of the incoming light.

Vision Glazing — The design of fenestration for the purpose of providing a view of the exterior for building occupants.
