Daylighting — The design of fenestration to admit daylight for the purpose of performing visual tasks.
Daylight Factor — The ratio of daylight illumination at a point given specific spatial conditions vs. the daylight illumination at that same point given an unobstructed view of the sky. Typically, direct solar illumination is not counted in either.
Design Documentation — The plans and specifications detailing the facility's construction characteristics and requirements.
Diffuse Lighting — Lighting that does not predominantly come from a limited set of directions.
Disability Glare — Glare that results in reduced visual performance.
Discomfort Glare — Glare that produces discomfort.
DOE — Department of Energy (USDOE)
Fenestration — Any opening or arrangement of openings (normally filled with media for control) for the admission of daylight.
Footcandle (fc) — The unit of illuminance on a surface equal to one lumen over one sq.ft.
Fresh Air Make-up - The introduction of fresh air from the building exterior in order to provide replacement air for that being removed by the building’s exhaust fan.
Functional Performance Test (FPT) — Detailed step-by-step procedures to verify the proper operation of a piece of equipment or system in all modes of operation in accordance with the Owner's Project Requirements.
