Overview

This module provides an overview of water efficiency with the intention of evaluating various types of commercial and institutional water uses, water efficient technological options available, and potential water conservation savings that can be achieved.

Water efficiency programs can:

  • Reduce costs through water, sewer and energy savings
  • Provide an important component of high performance building design
  • Earn points under the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system
  • Help us to preserve our natural resources

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the 3 primary uses of commercial and institutional water: domestic, heating and cooling, and landscape irrigation.
  2. Review current water efficient technologies available and the potential for reductions in water use.
  3. Review types of water meters and how they can aid water efficiency programs.

Target Audience

Building owners/operators, design teams, contractors, and others responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of high performance buildings.
